An in-kind gift is a donation of goods or services, rather than a cash donation, to a nonprofit organization. To enter in-kind gifts into Salesforce, enter them as gift commitments.

Some organizations accept non-monetary gifts from constituents and their community. For example, a nonprofit food pantry accepts donations of food, paper goods, or household cleaning products. A nonprofit after-school program accepts donations of computers, school supplies, or books. You can log the value of these donations as gift commitments in Salesforce.

For in-kind gifts, it's important to distinguish between a thank-you acknowledgment and a receipt. Make sure that you're in compliance with the applicable laws on how non-monetary gifts are recorded and acknowledged in your country or municipality.

          Note
Note If you don't see the in-kind donation fields on your New Gift Commitment entry form, your Salesforce admin can add them to the page layout. For more information, see Configure Page Layouts.
          1. From the App Launcher (App Launcher), find and select Gift Commitments.
          2. Click New.
          3. Enter the required donor details and a name for the commitment.
          4. Enter a description of the in-kind gift.
          5. If this in-kind gift is a non-recurring gift commitment that the donor pays in one or more installments, select the Custom frequency.
The scheduling options change based on the schedule type that you select.
          6. If this donation is associated with an opportunity and campaign, enter that information.
          7. Complete these in-kind gift fields.
            1. To indicate that this donation is an in-kind gift of non-monetary assets, select Asset Transfer Expected.
            2. In Total Asset Present Value, enter the total current value of the committed assets for the in-kind gift.
The present value is the value of the assets if they were to be sold in the current marketplace.
            3. In Expected Asset Transfer Date, enter the expected date of transferring the committed assets for the in-kind gift.
            4. In Total Expected Asset Transfer Value, enter the total expected value of the committed assets when they're transferred for the in-kind gift.

            6. In Total Expected Asset Maturity Value, enter the expected maturity value of the committed assets for the in-kind gift.
If you don’t see these fields on your new gift commitment form, it's likely that your Salesforce admin chose to include fewer fields to meet your nonprofit's in-kind gift needs.
          8. Save your work.
