A Gift Entry Solution for Higher Ed Advancement
GEM is designed to help you streamline the most complicated parts of tracking and entering gifts.
GEM helps you streamline the most complicated parts of tracking and entering gifts—complex reconciliations, varying gift amounts, multiple fund allocations, and multi-year pledges. With Education Data Architecture (EDA) as its base, GEM is designed to support fundraising operations for higher ed advancement. GEM also includes functionality from Non-Profit Success Pack (NPSP), so that EDA-based orgs can adopt a veteran suite of nonprofit fundraising features, including:
-
Fundraising architecture—Use custom fields and objects from NPSP, specifically designed for tracking donors and their gifts.
-
Gift Entry—Add large batches of data, on the order of tens of thousands of records, at once. Use NPSP Data Importer to enter groups of contacts and organizations, and use Gift Entry to enter collections of gifts and payments.
-
Customizable Rollups—Get visibility into important statistics such as a donor’s total lifetime giving, the total allocated to a specific fund, or a contact’s total influence via soft credits.
Process Gifts Singly or in Batch
Use Single Gift Entry from GEM to enter single gifts, or the NPSP Gift Entry Tool to enter large numbers of gifts.
GEM features Single Gift Entry, which lets you enter all the important information about a single gift in a single form. We recommend using it for scheduled payments, gifts as part of a campaign, gifts that have been matched by another organization, or tribute gifts in honor or memory of another person. See Get to Know the Single Gift Entry Form for more information.
NPSP includes the Gift Entry tool, which is useful for entering large numbers of simple, single gifts in a uniform way. It's designed for fast, keyboard-based data entry. See Gift Entry Overview in the NPSP Documentation for more information.
Because GEM is built on the Salesforce Platform, you can also create gifts through APIs and external tools like MuleSoft or Data Loader. These methods are, of course, more involved.
Account for All Gift Stages with Required Financial Data
Use Payment Allocations to specify designations for gifts at the payment level.
Allocations (often called designations) track the funds (known as General Accounting Units, or GAUs) that the gift should be assigned to. GEM allows Allocations to be set at a more granular level than just the gift itself. With the addition of Payment Allocations, you can adjust the designations for each payment if desired. No need to create separate gifts just to accept one payment with a different allocation split!
For example, a donor might designate half of their donation to a specific scholarship and the other half for unrestricted use. GEM applies 50/50 Allocations to the entire gift but they can be individualized for specific Payment records. Opportunity-level Allocations are known as GAU Allocations, and the Payment-level Allocations are known as Payment Allocations. They both share a single object, GAU Allocation.
Take Advantage of the Salesforce Platform
Use the standard features of the Salesforce Platform, such as Contacts and Opportunities, to help manage your donations and donors.
The power of the Salesforce Platform gives you access to Contacts, Opportunities, and other Salesforce records used for managing donations and donors, whether they come from individuals, organizations, or third-party donors. You can also add custom fields to each object as needed.
Everything in your Salesforce org is available for use by other parts of the platform, such as Reports, Campaigns/marketing tools, or other apps and integrations.
