Manage Gifts

Review NPSP documentation about managing donation allocations and single and multiple payment donations.

Because GEM requires NPSP, you can use standard NPSP methods to create gifts or manage the details of existing gifts. For more information, check out this NPSP documentation.

Payment Allocations Sync Both Ways

Learn how GEM syncs allocations between Payments and Opportunities.

GEM keeps Payment Allocations and Opportunity Allocations in sync. If you make a change in one location, GEM also updates the other. For example, if you change an Opportunity's GAU Allocations from a 50/50 split to a 60/40 split, the Payment Allocations for all unpaid Payments on that Opportunity are automatically changed to a 60/40 split.

If you change Payment Allocations first, however, the result is slightly different. Instead, Opportunity Allocations are updated to reflect the current state of all Payments for that Opportunity (excluding written off Payments). For example, let's say you created a $1000 gift, split into two equal Payments and two equal Allocations. That's two $500 Payments, each with two $250 Allocations. If you change the second Payment so that all $500 goes to a single Allocation, the Opportunity Allocations are updated to show $750/75% on one Allocation (the GAU's current allocation across all Payments) and $250/25% on the other.

Regardless of whether you change the Opportunity Allocations or the Payment Allocations, the resulting sync occurs only once, in one direction at a time. So don't worry; if you make a change to a specific Payment Allocation, that change doesn't sync back to the rest of your Payments!

Important
Important

These synchronized updates only affect Payments that aren't yet paid.

Also, deleting a Payment causes the Opportunity Allocations and Payment Allocations to fall out of sync. Because deletion doesn't trigger a sync, you must then use Manage Allocations to update the appropriate Allocations and force the sync.
