          Attributes

          Attributes

Attribute represents characteristics that apply to individual students and credentials earned by students and faculty (or other Contacts).

          • Sample Uses for Attribute
Knowing whether a faculty member has the proper credentials to teach a course or knowing whether a student has characteristics that might require additional support can improve your institution's delivery of services.
          • Configure Attribute
Keep the Attribute object up to date.
          • Attribute Record Types
Track student credentials and characteristics by using Attribute record types.
          • Create an Attribute Record
Use these steps to create an attribute record in K-12 Architecture Kit.

          Sample Uses for Attribute

Knowing whether a faculty member has the proper credentials to teach a course or knowing whether a student has characteristics that might require additional support can improve your institution's delivery of services.

The Attribute object can be used to track these types of metrics:

          • University—With the Credential record type, track the agency and expiration date of a law professor's State Bar Association license.
          • K-12—Track characteristics like whether a student is in foster care or qualifies for free lunch, or whether a faculty member has a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential.
          • Any educational institution—Track student characteristics like special-needs accommodations.

          Configure Attribute

Keep the Attribute object up to date.

          Keep Up with Attribute Updates

Consider these updates, depending on which version of

          K-12 Architecture Kit

          you originally installed:

If Installed Before Version Configuration Task
          1.22

If needed, create a K-12 All Credentials list view with this recommended configuration:

          • Sharing Settings: All users can see this list view
          • Filter by Owner: All attributes
          • Filter | Record Type: Credential

          • Display order: Attribute Name, Attribute Type, Subject Area, Grade Level, Start Date, End Date, Expired

Learn about creating list views in Create or Clone a List View.

          Attribute Record Types

Track student credentials and characteristics by using Attribute record types.

          • Credential—Allows educational institutions to track licenses, certifications, or endorsements earned by staff or students.

          • Student Characteristic—Allows educational institutions to track important student characteristics that might affect students' education.

          Tip
Tip To track something that is neither a credential nor a student characteristic, add your own record type to the Attribute object to track other traits. For example, create an Honor record type for students who are on the Dean's List or graduating Magna Cum Laude.

          Create an Attribute Record

Use these steps to create an attribute record in K-12 Architecture Kit.

          1. From the student or faculty member’s Contact record, click New in the Attributes related list.

          2. Select the record type for a credential or a student characteristic and click Next.

          3. Enter an Attribute Name to identify this Attribute record in page layouts, related lists, and searches. Don’t change the Contact name.

          4. Fill in optional fields as needed.

          5. Click Save.
