          Course

          Course

Course represents an academic course, typically offered periodically by an Account entity, such as a department or school.

          • Sample Uses for Course
A Course is an instance of a class that's offered at your educational institution and is typically related to the Account that offers it.
          • Keep Up with Course Updates
Consider these updates, depending on which version of K-12 Architecture Kit you originally installed.
          • Create a Course Record
Before you create Course records, first create their related Account records, representing the school or department most closely associated with a Course.

          Sample Uses for Course

A Course is an instance of a class that's offered at your educational institution and is typically related to the Account that offers it.

For example: While a Course is, in practice, often related to multiple Academic Programs (an Academic Program being a type of Account), each Course record is technically associated with only one Account. The type of related Account can vary by institution.

          • University or high school—The related Account often has the Academic Department record type, such as the English Department Account.
          • K-12—The related Account often has the Educational Institution record type, such as the school's Account.
          Note
Note A Course is not the same thing as a Course Offering. A Course is any instance of a class, while a Course Offering is a specific instance of that Course, usually tied to a Term. For example, every fall term, the English Department (Account) might offer a Course called British Literature 100. The Course itself is distinct from the Course Offering, which represents a single occurrence of British Literature 100 during a specific Term.

          Create a Course Record

Before you create Course records, first create their related Account records, representing the school or department most closely associated with a Course.

          Tip
Tip As a next step, create Course Offering records so that you're ready to enroll students in the Course (create Course Connection records).
          1. From the Account record for the entity that's related to the Course, click New in the Courses related list.
          2. Enter the Course Name. Don't change the Department name.
          3. Fill in optional fields as needed. Note that the Course ID (for example, ENG-211) can be a helpful text value for representing Courses in a course catalog.
          4. Click Save.
