          Term

          Term

Term represents an academic period when your institution is in session.

          • Sample Uses for Term
The Term object defines not only the dates when a Course is offered, but also the Term Type, Grading Period Sequence, Instructional Days, and a Parent Term (if it's part of a period defined by a larger Term).
          • Create Term Records
Create Term records for specific periods of time you want to track at your school. Typically, you create multiple records when you first start implementing Term data.

          • University—Set up one set of Terms for the Business School and a different set for the Law School.
          • Any educational institution—Specify a hierarchy of Terms, such as a 2018-2019 School Year parent Term with nested child Terms, 2018-2019 School Year Fall Semester and 2018-2019 School Year Spring Semester.

          Create Term Records

Create Term records for specific periods of time you want to track at your school. Typically, you create multiple records when you first start implementing Term data.

Before you create a Term, you must have an Account set up to relate to it (for example, an Account that represents the entire school, or a school within a school).

          Tip
Tip When creating Term records, consider:
          • Specifying "Part of Term" for the Type option if you offer six-week mini-terms or you segment your summer session into periods A through D.

          • Providing details about a Term’s relationship to other Terms. For example, enter the Parent Term that a Term is nested under, or enter a Grading Period Sequence that this Term represents ("1" for the first quarter, “2” for the second quarter, and so on).

With Terms, you can define as many levels of detail as needed for your institution’s model. For example, some schools define an Academic Year with a Summer Term that then has Summer 1 (8 weeks) and Summer 2 (8 weeks) nested under it.

          1. From an Account record, like a Department, click New in the Terms related list.
          2. Enter start and end dates for the Term. Don’t change the Account name.

          3. Fill in optional fields as needed. Click Save & New, and continue creating additional Term records as needed.
