          Create Validation Rules

          Create Validation Rules

Validation rules verify that data entered by a user meets the criteria you specify before the record can be saved. It can also prevent users from editing records that meet certain criteria, such as when a Disbursement is considered Paid.

          Example of a validation rule.

          1. Click Setup, then click Setup.

          2. Click Object Manager.

          3. Select the object name to create a validation rule for. For example, Disbursement.

          4. Click Validation Rules.

          5. Click New.

          6. Enter a Rule Name.

          7. Select Active to activate the rule.

          8. Enter a Description.

          9. Enter an Error Condition Formula that will trigger an error message if the formula is true. For example, ISPICKVAL(PRIORVALUE(outfunds__Status__c,“Paid”) displays an error if a disbursement is Paid and a user tries to edit the record.

          10. Click Check Syntax.

          11. Enter an Error Message.

          12. Select the Error Location.

          13. Click Save.
