Traditionally, Salesforce stores consent across several related objects, so understanding a single customer's preferences can mean checking multiple places. Global Consent Manager replaces that with a flattened, attribute-based model that brings consent details together in one place. Global Consent Manager creates a single consent record that you can query and manage at scale.
Note Complete your initial configuration by using the Global Consent Manager setup assistant, and then manage your everyday consent settings directly from the Global Consent tab.
How Global Consent Manager Works
- Global Consent Manager stores consent details as attributes on a single record rather than separate objects, allowing for high performance at scale.
- Every change becomes a permanent entry, so you have an auditable history of when and how people granted or withdrew consent.
- Instead of building consent structures per campaign, define reusable Global Consent Definitions that multiple use cases share to keep performance high.
- Global Consent Manager's flattened model brings in consent data no matter how you structured it, so it adapts to many use cases and implementation patterns.
Key Concepts
- Global Consent Definition
- A reusable template that groups the set of attributes needed for a consent use case. For example, a single Newsletter Subscription definition can cover every newsletter that shares core attributes.
- Attributes
- The fields that make up a consent record. Some fields are required, such as Consent Status and Consent Purpose. You can also add custom Additional Attributes for business-specific data, such as product lines or delivery frequencies.
- Guided Consent Management Layouts
- Customizable components that control how consent appears on data subject records, including contacts, leads, person accounts, individuals, and users. The Communication Consent layout handles messaging, such as newsletters. The Action Consent layout handles data processing activities, such as third-party data sharing or AI model training. Admins configure each layout to determine the visible consent definitions and attributes.
