Learn About Journal Types and Subtypes

Journal types and subtypes help categorize transaction journals. Specifying the journal type and subtype of a transaction journal helps you to design processes that process transaction journals based on their type and subtype. For example, you create transaction journals of the type Accrual and subtype Member Enrollment to credit points to members for joining a loyalty program. Now you can design a process to credit points to new members when the member’s transaction type is Accrual and subtype is Member Enrollment.

Important To use journal types and subtypes that are provided with Loyalty Management in your sandbox, you need a full sandbox. The records aren’t available in partial copy sandboxes.

Loyalty Management provides these journal types and subtypes:

Journal Type	Description	Example
Accrual	Provided for transaction journals for which points are credited to members. Two journal subtypes are provided with the Accrual journal type: Member Enrollment: Provided for transaction journals that are created to credit points to a member for joining the loyalty program. Member Referral: Provided for transaction journals that are created to credit points to a member for referring another member to the loyalty program.	A transaction journal that’s created to credit points to a member for purchasing a product.
Accrual Reversal	Provided for transaction journals that are created to debit points from members because they canceled an Accrual type transaction journal for which members were credited points.	A transaction journal that’s created to debit points from a member when the member cancels a product for which the member was credited points.
Manual Points Adjustment	Provided for transaction journals that are created to adjust points in the member’s points balance or the points that were debited or credited for a transaction journal.	A transaction journal that's created to credit points to a member as a token of apology because their product wasn’t delivered on time.
Points Expiration	Provided for transaction journals that expire member points that are past the expiration date.	A transaction journal that’s created on December 31 to debit the points that expired in December 30 from the member’s points balance.
Qualifying Points Reset	Provided for transaction journals that reset the qualifying points balance of members to zero after the member’s qualifying period for a tier is over.	A transaction journal that’s created to reset a member’s Qualifying currency points balance to zero on the qualifying points reset date.
Redemption	Provided for transaction journals for which points are debited from members.	A transaction journal that’s created to debit points that the member redeemed to purchase a product.
Redemption Reversal	Provided for transaction journals that are created to credit points to members because they canceled a Redemption type transaction journal for which points were debited from the members.	A transaction journal that’s created to credit points to the member after the member cancels a product for which the member redeemed points.
