Understand and Track Security Center Essentials Metric Changes

Security Center Essentials tracks multiple important metrics for your org. Each metric has a detail page that helps you understand how your org’s ecosystem and configurations change over time. Use these charts to identify activity patterns, make adjustments as necessary, and ensure that your org’s security posture meets or exceeds your baseline.

For all metrics except Security Health Check, the detail page displays data in multiple ways across time or for a specific date.

Security Center Essentials metric detail page
  1. The Changes view shows changes to the number of installed add-ons or configurations on a specific date or date range or over a 30-day period. For example, two managed packages were installed on June 5, 2026.
  2. The All Data view shows the number of add-ons installed or uninstalled or configurations made on one specific date for your org. For example, your org has 20 total managed packages installed. On May 14, one of those managed package was installed.

    On the Changes view:

  3. Total Count Trend tracks the total count of installed add-ons or configured items—such as managed packages, connected apps, or IP ranges—present in the org over a 30-day period. The day’s count is available for each day that data was collected. Hover over the dot to view. The trend line remains stable when no new configuration events occur and shifts up or down when configurations are added or removed. The table below the graph shows details for changes across a wider range of dates that you select.
  4. Daily Changes shows the number of configuration or other changes occurring on a specific day. For example, a change count of 2 indicates that two items were added, two items were deleted, or one item was added and one item was deleted. If no bar appears, no changes occurred.
  5. The Changes by Date table shows you change details for a date range.
  6. Use filters to filter table data by Field Name, Operator, and Value.
  7. Click Update Data to collect the latest metric data.
Example
Example

You’re a security admin. From the Security Center Essentials Security Landscape, you notice an increase in the number of unmanaged packages in your org: from three to six since the last time you checked. You know that unmanaged packages may pose security or performance risks, so you want more information. The Unmanaged Packages Metric detail page tells you that two days ago, four new unmanaged packages were installed and one was uninstalled. Those activities account for the increase from three to six that you noticed. From the metric detail page’s Changes by Date table, you learn that a single user made the changes, so you follow up with that user to make sure that the newly installed packages are secure and appropriately used.
