Test Segments in Small Business Suites

Review email personalization and email delivery in the real world with test segments. A test segment contains your or your colleagues’ contact information so that you can review personalized, draft emails in your own inboxes.

Things to Know About Test Segments

As you get acquainted with the marketing features in Salesforce Small Business Suites, consider creating a test segment to practice with. Here are a few things to keep in mind.

  • Test email sends count toward email sending limits.
  • A completed campaign isn’t reusable. When you’re satisfied with your tests, create a campaign and select the right email and segment.
  • To remove test segment data from a report, open the Segment filter on the Performance dashboard and deselect any test segments.

Building a Test Segment

To build a test segment, first create some leads or contacts who have something in common. For best results, use these guidelines.

  • Create at least two test leads or contacts.
  • Give each test record an OptIn value in the Consent Status field.
  • Use different email addresses for each test contact. If you use the same address for multiple contacts, the email goes to the contact whose record was most recently updated.
  • Make sure that you can access the test email addresses’ inboxes.
  • For each test record, include at least one attribute that’s shared with all the others, such as Account Name equals ABC Testing, Co.

Create a Test Segment

After you create some test records with your own contact information, create a segment for testing purposes.

  1. From the Marketing app, select Segments, and then click New.
  2. Give your segment a name, such as Test Segment, and save.
  3. From the Related Attributes list, click Account Contact.
  4. Find the Account Name field and drag it into the canvas.
  5. From the operator dropdown, select Is Equal To, and enter ABC Testing Co. or whichever common account name you entered for your test records.
  6. Verify that the population indicates the number of test records you expect, and save the segment.
