Actionable Lists in Salesforce Suites
In the Marketing app, the List Sends feature targets an Actionable List, which is a saved collection of leads or contacts. Because the recipient list comes from an Actionable List instead of a segment, your email goes out without waiting on Data 360 processing.

What an Actionable List Is
An Actionable List is a targeted collection of leads or contacts that you build from your Salesforce data. Actionable Lists target an audience and send an email without learning a separate segmentation tool.
It helps to know what an Actionable List isn’t.
- It isn’t a segment. A segment is a set of filtering rules that Data 360 processes each time an email is ready to send. An Actionable List already holds its members, so your send doesn’t wait on that processing step.
- It isn’t dependent on Data 360. Because no segment is created, a List Send doesn’t introduce delays or failed sends.
- It isn’t a list view. A list view is a filter that controls which records you see on a page. An Actionable List is a saved audience that you can target, reuse, and reference from a flow.
Ways to Create an Actionable List
You have several ways to build an Actionable List, depending on where you’re working.
| From... | How... |
|---|---|
| The Actionable Lists tab | Create a list directly and add members to it. |
| A filtered list view | Filter the Leads or Contacts list view, click Send Email, and then select Create from a new list. |
| A flow | Use the Add to actionable list action in Flow Builder to add members automatically based on criteria that you set. |
| A CSV import | Turn on the Add to Actionable List option when you import a file, and then select an existing list. |
Note An Actionable List that you manage on the Actionable Lists tab can include up to 10,000
members. For lists created and managed elsewhere in Salesforce, such as in Email Builder
Lite, a limit of 2,000 members applies.
Things to Know About Actionable Lists
- Leads or contacts, not both: An Actionable List contains either leads or contacts. You can’t mix the two in one list.
- No campaign members: You can’t add campaign members to an Actionable List. To target campaign members, use a campaign and a segment instead.
- Email preview and merge fields: Previewing an email with merge field values substituted isn’t available when your recipients come from an Actionable List.
- Included with the Marketing app:To use Actionable Lists, activate the Marketing App.
Note Actionable Lists change how you choose recipients for List Sends only. When you send
email as part of a campaign, you still build a segment to target your audience by using
quick filters, Segment Builder, or campaign members.
