Manage Accruals

Manage Accruals

With Rebate and Accrual Management Advanced, you can calculate accruals rebate types independently. Program managers can view the accrual information for each member and each accrual period. Understand how accruals are calculated in the Advanced engine and analyze a use case that showcases how independent accrual calculations help manage finances.

Required Editions

Available in: Enterprise, Unlimited, and Developer Editions that have Advanced Rebate and Accruals Management enabled.

Accrual is the financial liability recorded by the company based on transaction projections or flat rates, whereas Payout is the actual amount that you pay based on the finalized recorded transactions and tier attainment.

To accurately plan for the upcoming financial period, your finance team must estimate monetary dues against a rebate program. Calculate accruals upfront or on a more frequent schedule (e.g., weekly) to verify the potential payment due at the end of a month or quarter.

Calculate accruals by using actual transaction data processed through Data Processing Engine (DPE) definitions on Data Cloud. The engine applies benefit tier values to calculate accrued amounts based on transaction volumes.

If partners aren't attaining a benefit threshold during a period, you can still accrue based on a predefined measure type and value. By doing so, you'll be better prepared with your finances if partners reach a higher threshold later in the year, ensuring the funds are already reserved.

  • How Are Accruals Calculated?
Define the calculation basis of a rebate type and add an Accrual Frequency to specify how often to track financial liabilities. In the Advanced engine, you can decouple accruals from payouts to recognize accounting liabilities more frequently than cash disbursements.
  • Calculate Accrual Amounts Across Multiple Accrual Periods (Example)
This example shows how accruals are calculated for a member across multiple accrual periods. Accruals help finance teams project future liabilities and reserve funds before final settlement.
  • Activate a Rebate Program
Activate an advanced rebate program to start the calculation of accruals and payouts for the enrolled members. To activate a rebate program, ensure the associated rebate types, members, and benefit tiers are in Active status.
  • Clone a Rebate Program and Rebate Type
Use the Clone and Clone with Related actions on Rebate Program and Program Rebate Type records to copy a record along with its related records. For Advanced Rebate programs, this allows you to quickly replicate independent accrual and payout configurations for new regions or periods.
  • Run a Rebate Program for AMER and LATAM Partners (Example)
This example shows how an administrator in an automotive company configures an end-to-end advanced rebate program to calculate monthly accruals for channel partners using Data Processing Engine definitions on Data Cloud.
  • View Accruals in Experience Cloud
Partners can view rebate program information and calculated accrual amounts through the Experience Cloud site. This provides transparency into accrued financial liabilities for the programs they're enrolled in.
