          Buying Models for Consumption-Based Products

          Buying Models for Consumption-Based Products

Salesforce consumption-based products, such as Agentforce and Data 360, have multiple buying models: pre-purchased, pre-committed, pay-as-you-go, and unlimited. Digital Wallet supports the usage tracking and analysis for all of these buying models.

You have access to the same consumption insights and analytics experience in Digital Wallet regardless of the buying model. You can use the pre-built Data 360 and Tableau Next dashboards to understand what's driving your consumption, view usage forecasts, and drill down to usage per agent, action, Data 360 resources, and so on. Or you can build your own custom reports to dive deeper into the data. For details, see Get Actionable Insights with Standard Consumption Tags.

The only Digital Wallet experience that varies is the information shown on the consumption card view. See the buying model descriptions for the specific differences. Your buying model determines how your consumption is tracked and billed, and what information Digital Wallet shows on each consumption card.

          Pre-Purchased

With the pre-purchased buying model, you paid upfront for credits or capacity over your contract term. If you use more than you purchased, you typically receive an invoice for the additional consumption used. Any unused pre-purchased entitlements are forfeited at the end of the contract term.

Your consumption card shows credits or capacity consumed, remaining consumption, and total allocated consumption. You can see how your usage draws down from your prepaid amount throughout the contract term. We show you a progress bar so it’s easy for you to track the usage against your total purchase at a glance.

An example consumption card for the pre-purchased buying model is for Data Storage Allocation. It shows a progress bar with 248 GB consumed out of 6,144 GB total, with start and end dates and a contract number.

          Pre-Committed

With the pre-committed buying model, you committed to use a specific amount over your contract term, and you're billed as you use the services. Instead of paying for everything upfront, you're typically invoiced monthly based on your actual usage. If you don't use your full pre-committed quantity, you can receive a shortfall invoice.

Your consumption card tracks usage against your total committed amount, with start and end dates for your contract term. This view helps you monitor whether you're on track to meet your commitment so you can avoid shortfall charges at contract end.

An example consumption card for the pre-committed buying model is for Mule Credits. It shows a progress bar for credits consumed versus total committed credits, along with start and end dates and a contract number.

          Pay-as-You-Go

With the pay-as-you-go buying model, you're billed for what you use each billing cycle with no long-term commitment. Your usage fees are typically invoiced each month after you've used the services.

Your consumption card shows usage for the current billing cycle. There's no volume cap, so the card shows how much you've consumed without showing the remaining capacity. The card resets at the start of each billing cycle.

An example consumption card for the pay-as-you-go buying model is for Data Services Credits. It shows the credits consumed for the current billing cycle and the contract agreement name.

          Unlimited

With the unlimited buying model, you have uncapped usage over your contract term with no volume limits. Consumption products sold with the unlimited buying model, such as Agentforce (via Agentic Enterprise License Agreements) provide you with access to Salesforce products for a fixed upfront price. This model delivers complete cost predictability without the fear of overages or shortfalls. By removing these traditional roadblocks, this model empowers you to rapidly experiment, deploy, and scale your AI initiatives confidently across the enterprise.

Your consumption card shows usage for the contractual cycle. It clearly lists the total credits consumed during your agreement, and shows your exact contract start and end dates.

An example consumption card for the unlimited buying model is for Flex Credits. It shows the total credits consumed, contract start and end dates, and the contract agreement name.

Usage Is Tracked for Only One Buying Model at a Time

Digital Wallet supports only one active buying model per entitlement per org. If you see a consumption card with a Dormant badge, it means that consumption for the entitlement is being tracked on a different consumption card. Data on a dormant card is for historical reference only. All usage is tracked and drawn down against only the active buying model.
