Set the Search Provider for Search the Web Agent Action
To improve the accuracy of web search responses, set the search provider for the Search the Web action. Set the provider value through input variables in Next Generation Actions (NGA) or through the Configuration Value field in the legacy Agentforce Builder.

Before you begin, make sure that the Search the Web action is added to the agent. Turn on Einstein in Einstein Setup. If using the OpenAI provider, turn on OpenAI Models in Einstein Setup.
The search provider determines which service processes web search queries. If you don’t specify a provider, the action uses BrightData as the default search provider.

The search provider determines which service processes web search queries. If you don't specify a provider, the action uses BrightData as the default search provider.
- From the App Launcher, search for Agent, and select the Agentforce Studio app, and then click Agents.
- Select the agent that you use for web search. If you don't have a web search agent, click New Agent and create one.
- On the Explorer panel, expand Subagents and select the General Web Search subagent.
- Under Actions Available For Reasoning, click Select action and select Search The Web.
- Expand Search The Web to show its input parameters.
- Next to Search Provider, click Agent Populated. The Edit Custom Variable dialog opens.
- Enter a Name for the variable. The API Name is populated automatically.
- For Data Type, select String.

In the Default Value field, enter one of the supported search
providers: BrightData, OpenAI, or
you.com.
Provider names aren't case sensitive. For example, you can enter OpenAI, openai, or OPENAI. If you don't specify a provider, the action uses BrightData by default.
- Save your changes.
Set the Search Provider in the Legacy Agentforce Builder
- From Setup, in the Quick Find box, enter Agents, and then select Agentforce Agents.
- Select your agent, and click Open in Builder.
- In Agentforce Builder, open the General Web Search subagent.
- Select This Subagent’s Actions.
- Select Search The Web.
- Click Edit Action.
- In the Inputs section, locate the Configuration Value field under Search Provider, and select a search provider.
- Save the action.
Use subagent instructions to control the format of web search results, for example, bullet points or tables.
