          Unreferenced Refunds

          Unreferenced Refunds

By default, when a product is returned, the refund is credited to the original payment source. To credit the refund to a different source, process the return as an unreferenced refund. You can credit an unreferenced refund amount to any credit type configured in your org.

By extending credit types, you can individualize customer service by giving customers more control over where funds are refunded to. For example, you can offer to return the funds back to the original source, add the funds to a gift card, or add the funds to a Credit or Debit Card credit type.

You can also use unreferenced refunds to customize your return policies. For example, if your store allows refunds only during the first 90 days after a purchase, you can create a Store Credit or Gift Card credit type to use after the 90-day period.

There are three tasks you must complete before unreferenced refunds can be supported on your org.

Create credit types Use a third-party provider to create credit types or call the B2C Commerce API to create a certificate-based credit type.
Add credit types to your org After you’ve created your credit types, add them to your org.
Enable credit types in your service flows Finally, configure your return or RMA flows to present these credit types at run time.
