Approximate Segment Population
When building a segment in Data 360, use the Approximate Segment Population field to quickly check that the segment count meets your expectations. The approximate count provides an estimated segment population, represented as a range of possible values with 95% confidence. When the segment population is small, or when the record count for Segment On is low, the actual population can differ from the estimated range. You can then adjust your segment rules and save your segment to get the final segment population. To use this feature, enable Approximate Segment Population in Feature Manager.
To calculate the Approximate Segment Population, we use a subset of your profile dataset, compute filters on this dataset, count the population, and then normalize this data against the sampling percentage. This calculation provides an estimate of the segment population, which is a range of possible population values at a 95% confidence level.
- Approximate count works with zero copy, except when the profile data being segmented on is itself external. In that case, we fall back to the exact count instead of the approximate count.
- When approximate segment Population is enabled, filter level and container level counts also return approximate count.
