Create an Activation for an External Platform

Create an Activation for an External Platform

In Data 360, create an activation to publish a segment to an external platform, such as an AppExchange partner (Liveramp, Criteo, Tradedesk) or a strategic partner (Google, LinkedIn, Meta, or Amazon Ads) target.

          Required Editions

Available in: All Editions supported by Data 360. See Data 360 edition availability.
          Permission Sets Needed
          To create an activation:

Any one of these permission sets:

          • Data Cloud Architect
          • Data Cloud Activation Manager

Make sure that you've completed these tasks before creating an activation:

          1. On the Activations tab, click New.
          2. Select a data space.
          3. Select a segment to activate.

The segment must have an active publish schedule to ensure that near real-time membership data is sent.

          4. Select an activation target.

If the privacy type isn’t set, update the external platform to include a privacy type.

          5. Select a data model object (DMO) from Activation Membership. Unified Individual DMO isn't available for segments built on account or unified account objects for AppExchange partner targets.
          6. Click Continue.
          7. If you’re using a strategic partner target or AppExchange partner target, map each data model attribute to its partner field. On the mapping screen, map each partner field (right side) to the corresponding Data 360 data model attribute (left side). Pre-selected attributes cannot be deselected. Select and map optional fields as needed. In the User Identifiers section, ensure at least one attribute is selected.
            1. Click the pencil icon to edit and select the object and field where the data resides.
            2. Select the path to retrieve the data from the object.
            3. Click Save.
            4. Click Next.
          8. To activate more attributes, click Add Attributes. You can add two types of attributes to your activation.
            • Direct Attribute—Attributes of the Activation Membership DMO.
            • Related Attribute—Attributes from any object in the DMO if a path to that object from the Activated On object exists and all the relationships along that path are either 1:1 or N:1.
To include Digital Id as a contact point in activation of a JSON-based external activation platform, add the related attributes from the Contact Point Digital Id DMO.
          9. For a more refined output, add activation membership filters. Click Add Filters, drag attributes from the list to the canvas, and save the filter. For more information, Add Filters to the Activation Membership.
          10. To add filters for each mapped Contact Point:
            1. Select the maximum number of attribute values to be sent per contact point. This is enabled only for Contact Point Digital Id for activation of a JSON-based external activation platform.
            2. Select a sort option for the attribute values.
            3. If the Contact point digital ID is mapped for external platforms created by the ISVs, add the filter for the digital ID type attribute. Provide the filter values based on the external activation platform settings defined by the Data Cloud Architect for ID Type mapping to normalize ID type values. Based on the filtering, the corresponding records are activated to the external activation platform. For more information, see Add Filters to Contact Points in Activation.
            4. Click Next.
          11. Provide a name and optional description for the activation and save.

Use the activation name to find the activated audience within your strategic partner targets.

When the segment is published, the Audience DMO is updated with the activated records. To view these records, go to the Data Explorer page and select the corresponding Audience DMO. Use the Query API to retrieve the activated records.
