          Object-Level and Field-Level Tags in Data 360

          Object-Level and Field-Level Tags in Data 360

In data governance, you can use object-level tags and field-level tags to label and manage data at different levels of granularity.

Tags in Data 360 are applied to entire data objects such as data lake objects (DLOs), data model objects (DMOs), and calculated insight objects (CIOs). These tags describe the overall nature or sensitivity of the object. For example, you can apply a Confidential or Customer Data tag to an entire sales dataset.

You can use field-level tags to identify individual parts of an object, such as Email, Social Security Number, or Date of Birth. These tags identify sensitive fields that ‌require masking, restricted access, or special handling.

Using both levels of tagging lets organizations protect sensitive fields while allowing broader access and control at the object level.

          • Create a Tag in Data 360
Tags are essential for organizing, classifying, and managing data at scale. They act as metadata labels that describe the content, sensitivity, usage, or purpose of a data object or field. Tags can have one parent and multiple child tags, but they don't support more than one level of hierarchy.
          • Edit or Delete a Tag in Data 360
You can delete a tag or edit the tag name, API name, and classifications. You can't delete tags that are used in policies. This includes default tags provided by Data Cloud.
