          Parent-Child Hierarchy in Data 360

          Parent-Child Hierarchy in Data 360

A parent-child tag hierarchy organizes tags in a logical, multi-level structure, where broader, general tags (parents) are linked to more specific, detailed tags (children).

This hierarchical approach standardizes tagging, improves clarity, and enables scalable policy application across related data elements. For example:

          • Personal Information (Parent Tag)
            • Email Address (Child Tag
            • Phone Number (Child Tag)
            • Home Address (Child Tag)

Tag hierarchies standardize data labeling across your organization and support inheritance. When you assign a parent tag to an object, its related child tags can be included as part of the classification to make it easier to apply policies at scale. If you assign a child tag to an object, the corresponding parent tag is automatically applied, and any policies linked to the parent tag are enforced. However, if you assign only the parent tag, policies tied to child tags aren’t enforced unless you explicitly add those child tags to the object.
