Configure Calculated Field Settings
Like all fields, calculated fields have a field type of dimension or measure. Depending on the field type, calculated fields have additional field settings or metadata to be configured, such as data role, aggregation type, or sentiment.

- Open the New Calculated Field window or Edit Calculated Field window.
- From the New dropdown, select Calculated Field. Or, click on a calculated field in the left pane.
- For Field Type, select Dimension or Measure. Dimensions are qualitative. Measures are quantitative and have an aggregation.
-
From the Data Type dropdown menu, select the type of data the
calculated field represents.
- Valid data types are Number, Text, Date, DateTime, Boolean, Percentage, URL, Email, Phone Number, and Currency.
- When you define the formula, the output must match the data type of the calculated field. For example, if the data type is Boolean, the formula can't have a numeric output.
- Enter a unique name.
-
(Optional) To define advanced settings, expand Advanced. What
options appear depend on the field type and data type. Not all options are always available and
at times values are view-only.
- Description: A description to help users or agents understand the purpose of the calculated field.
- API Name: Enter a unique API name. You can’t edit the API name after the field is created.
- Aggregation: Specifies the aggregation for measures. If the formula contains aggregations, this should be UserAgg. Valid options include: UserAgg, Sum, Average, Min, Max, Median, Count, CountDistinct, StdDev, StdDevP, Var, and VarP.
- Decimal Place: For measures. The default is 2, use the - and + buttons to adjust between 0-9 decimal places.
- Data Role: Discrete or continuous. Dimensions are usually discrete and measures are usually continuous. For date and datetime fields in particular, whether they are discrete or continuous has a large impact on their behavior.
- Sentiment: Indicates the sentiment of an upward trend. Valid options are: Up is Good, Up is Bad, Up is Neutral.
- Treat Null as Zero (checkbox): Selecting this checkbox means nulls are treated as zeros for operations.
- Field Visibility (toggle): Whether or not the field is visible in the left pane.
- (Optional) For filters, see Add Filters to a Calculated Field.
- For the formula section, see Write a Formula in a Calculated Field.
-
Click Validate to check your calculated field.
- Verify that the field type, data type, and formula aren't in conflict. Not all combos make sense, such as a continuous Boolean.
- Click Save.
