Currency in Tableau Semantics
Use currency fields in Tableau Semantics to convert values into the corporate currency based on the settings in the semantic model. A currency field is a specific field type that is automatically associated with a Currency ISO Code field. You can convert data from one currency to the corporate currency when analyzing dashboards, building semantic models, or creating calculated fields. You can also create calculated fields based on currency measures, sort by currency fields, and ensure values are displayed in the corporate currency for global audiences.
For example, if you’re a data analyst, set fields to the Currency type to automatically convert values into the corporate currency. As a business user, you can view dashboards in the default corporate currency without needing to manually adjust for local currencies.
- Create a Semantic Model with a Currency Field
Create a semantic model with a currency field to convert the values into the corporate currency. To preserve the original value of the measure before conversion, clone the Currency field as a Number data type field. - Change the Data Type of a Field to Currency
Change a numeric field, such as a measure, to a currency field. For example, you need to report account revenues in multiple currencies to accommodate international operations, but the account revenue is stored in a Number field. To get accurate reporting and enable conversions between currencies, you must use a currency field that’s linked to a Currency ISO Code field.
