Create a Goal
Help business users monitor their metrics against specific targets by creating one or more goals in Tableau Semantics. Adding goals is an optional final step when creating or editing a submetric.

- In Data Cloud, on the Semantic Layer tab, select the option to add or edit a submetric in the Metrics tab. This lets you configure settings, including goals, for the chosen submetric. New Goal is the last step in the submetric’s Steps pane..

In the Set Goal pane, provide these parameters, and then click
Next.
Field Description Time Range Enter the period during which the goal is to be achieved. You can select a period from the list or specify both a Start Date and an End Date. Goal Name Provide a clear name for the goal. This label is shown next to the goal when the condition is met and is used as a status. For example, use “Complete”. Operator Select the operator that determines how the current metric value is compared to the goal value. Value Enter the target numeric value for the goal. Enter the value in a format consistent with the metric's measure format. Choose Color Select a color associated with the goal. This color is intended for use as the background color for the status label associated with the goal. This step is optional. - The right pane shows a preview of the goal you’re creating.
- To add thresholds, select a color, enter the threshold’s label, choose an operator, and enter a value. You can enter positive numbers, negative numbers, or 0 as values. Add up to five thresholds by clicking Add Threshold.

Click Save.
To add more goals, repeat the process.
Note A submetric can’t have two different goals defined with the same start and end date.
