          Logical Views in Tableau Semantics

          Logical Views in Tableau Semantics

A logical view is a data object that combines objects using joins or unions rather than relationships. Although a logical view is a separate object type in the semantic model, it functions like any data model object (DMO) or data lake object (DLO). Use logical views in relationships, calculated fields, metrics, and other semantic definitions.

Use Case: Add complicated logic that can’t be achieved using other semantic layer features. For example, create a logical view called Awarded Books which is composed of a Books DMO and an Awards DMO that are joined using an inner join. The result is a new data object that you can see in the Semantic Model Builder Canvas (called “Awarded Books”) and you can create relationships between this object and other data objects.

          • Create a Logical View
A logical view connects data objects. There are a few steps you need to complete to create the logical view. You first have to define the properties, next select the data object for the logical view, and then you can configure the logical view.
          • Remove an Object from a Logical View
You can remove an object from the logical view if no fields are in a relationship or if the object is not connected via a join. Removing the object removes any joins between this object and other objects in the logical view.
