When guest users visit your site, cached images are optimized to best suit the user’s
phone, tablet, or desktop computer. Image optimization makes your site’s pages load faster,
which creates a better browsing experience for your visitors.

Optimization reduces an image’s byte size while keeping the perceived image quality as
close to the original image as possible. The optimization feature determines the best width
and image format to use based on the user’s device, browser, and operating system.
This feature is available for sites that use the Salesforce CDN. Our CDN is enabled by
default for sites that use enhanced domains. You can also configure custom domains to use
the Salesforce CDN option. If you have an existing custom domain on a shared certificate, we
recommend that you switch it to a single certificate. There's no downtime when you switch
from a shared to a single certificate. On the Domain Edit page, select the option
Single certificate for content delivery network (CDN).
The image optimization feature supports JPEG, PNG for images with transparency, GIF, and
web image formats. It doesn’t support Photoshop (PSD), RAW, or SVG formats.
Use these recommendations when you upload images.
Use images with a width of 2,000–4,000 pixels.
Keep the image’s file size between 200 KB and 2 MB.
Use the sRGB color profile.
Keep the total pixel count of animated GIFs under 100 million pixels for sites hosted on
Experience Delivery. The total pixel count is the sum of all frames (width × height ×
number of frames).
To disable this preference, in Experience Workspaces, under Administration | Preferences, deselect Optimize cached images for guest users on all
devices.
