You can create a supplier recovery claim for each causal part in a warranty claim. The information in the supplier claim is derived from the warranty claim. Here's how the records are created:
- Claim: The information from the warranty claim record is replicated in the supplier recovery claim record.
- Claim Item: The information from the warranty claim item record is replicated in the supplier recovery claim item record.
- Claim Coverage: A claim coverage record in the warranty claim represents a causal part. A supplier recovery claim coverage record is created for each causal part in the warranty claim.
- Claim Coverage Payment Details: For each supplier recovery claim coverage, the supplier recovery claim coverage payment detail records are created according to two key values. These key values are defined in the contract terms as the expense recovery type and the replacement part.
| Key Values For Claim Coverage Payment Detail Records | ||
|---|---|---|
| Expense RECOVERY type of the sales contract line | replacement part | |
| Same as Causal Part | Not the same as Causal Part | |
| Part Expense | The claim coverage payment detail record is created. Claimed Amount = Quantity x Unit Price in Sales Contract Line |
The claim coverage payment detail record isn’t created. |
| Total Expense | The claim coverage payment detail record is created. Claimed Amount = Quantity x Unit Price in Sales Contract Line |
The claim coverage payment detail record is created without a claimed amount. Claimed Amount = To be specified by the manufacturer |
If there are multiple suppliers for a causal part, the account name and claimed amount in the claim coverage payment detail records are not prefilled by Salesforce. Specify this information manually. You can also manually create claim coverage payment detail records for other expenses that can be covered by the supplier based on the contract terms.

Jiyoo Group is a supplier for Neo Motors, an automotive Original Equipment Manufacturer. They supply the products, Neo Battery and Neo Spark Plug.
Neo Motors and Jiyoo Group enter into a contract.
- Contract Number: 0001
- Account Name: Rayler Parts
- Status: Activated
- Contract Start Date: August 16, 2024
- Contract Term (months): 12
The contract includes these sales contract line items.
| Name | Product | Quantity | Unit Price | Expense Recovery Type | Part Return |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| SalesContractLine0001 | Neo Battery | 50 | US$2,000 | Part Expense | True |
| SalesContractLine02 | Neo Spark Plug | 100 | US$800 | Total Expense | False |
Neo Motors receives a warranty claim from Dream Dealers, a partner dealership, that includes Neo battery and Neo spark plug as two causal parts for the Neo Sedan NXi vehicle.
The supplier recovery specialist at Neo Motors raises supplier recovery claims from the warranty claim to reimburse the expenses incurred on these parts provided by Jiyoo Group. Two claim records of the type Supplier Recovery Claim are created, one for each causal part. Each claim record has a claim item record. The claim item records contain information about the defective asset and the causal parts. Each claim item record has these claim coverage records.
- A claim coverage named "Overheating Battery" for the causal part, Neo Battery S0S5
- A claim coverage named "Defective Spark Plug" for the causal part, Spark Plug 200I
Let's look at these claim coverage payment details.
For the Overheating Battery claim coverage record, these are the claim coverage payment detail records.
- Replaced Part charges for one battery replacement with claimed amount: 1 x $2,600 = $2,600
- Labor charges for replacing defective battery: $500
The unit price in the contract is $2,000, so Salesforce calculates the claim amount as $2,000 + $500 = $2,500. As the contract only covers parts expense, Neo Motors has to manually remove the labor charges from the claim coverage record before submitting the supplier recovery claim. This brings the total claimed amount for the supplier recovery claim to $2,000.
For the Defective Spark Plug claim coverage record, these are the claim coverage payment detail records.
- Replaced parts expense for one spark plug replacement with claimed amount: 1 x $800 = $800
- Travel expense for replacing defective spark plug: $100
Since the contract covers total expense, Jiyoo Group covers the travel expense claimed by Neo Motors as well. So, the total claimed amount for the supplier recovery claim is $900.
