To assign a warranty term to an asset, create an asset warranty. An asset automatically
inherits the warranty terms associated with the related product. But if you want to change the
terms at the asset level, specify any extensions or exclusions for the asset warranty
term.

User Permissions Needed
To create asset warranties:
Warranty Lifecycle Management permission set
From a Warranty Term record, on the Asset Warranties related list of the Related tab, click
New.
You can also open an Asset record in the Automotive tab and click New on the Asset
Warranties related list on the Warranties tab.
Select a warranty term that this asset warranty term extends.
Enter the start and end dates for the warranty.
Select the asset.
Select a price book.
Select the type of exchange offered by this asset warranty term.
Enter the description of exclusions associated with this warranty.
To indicate whether the warranty term can be transferred to a new owner, select
Transferable.
For Warranty Type, select Repair, Standard,
Supplier, or a custom value.
Enter the percentage of labor covered by this warranty term.
Enter the percentage of expenses covered by this warranty term.
Enter the percentage of parts covered by this warranty term.
Enter the end dates for Labor Covered, Expenses Covered, and Parts Covered.
Click Save.
Example
The warranty manager at Neo Motors, a manufacturer, defines a warranty term to cover all
assets for their Neo Engine product with the following details.
Warranty Term Name: Neo Engine Standard Warranty
Active: True
Warranty Type: Standard
Labor Covered: 60%
Expenses Covered: 50%
She creates a product warranty term to assign the warranty term to the Neo Engine S95
product.
A dealer at Dream Dallas Dealers requests the warranty manager to extend the labor coverage
for the Neo Engine S95 asset to 85% for repair scenarios. The warranty manager creates an asset
warranty term with the following details:
Warranty Term: Neo Engine Standard Warranty
Warranty Type: Repair
Asset: Neo Engine S95
Labor Covered: 85%
The asset warranty extends the labor covered for the Neo Engine S95 asset to 85% but the
expenses covered for the asset remain 50% as specified in the standard warranty term.
