Push Upgrade Benefits
Discover how push upgrades can transform your operations and provide you with a head start on new features and improvements.
- Minimize risks and lower support costs: Keep your systems to date to prevent issues arising from outdated versions.
- Streamline and simplify updates: Receive critical bug fixes and security patches quickly and easily.
- Efficient update management: Move closer to a continuous delivery model for smoother operations.
Prerequisites to Get Automatic Push Upgrades
- Sign up for the VEPP propgram to participate in the push upgrade process. For information on how to get push upgrades in your sandbox, contact Salesforce Customer Support.
- Be on the latest patch: Make sure your CG Cloud managed package is on the latest patch of the major release for CG Cloud managed package. Follow the instructions in the Upgrade process. If you’re using Trade Promotion Management (TPM), see TPM Upgrade.
- Migrate to managed permission sets: Use managed permission sets for seamless user assignments. Managed permission sets establish conflict-free and error-free push upgrades and make sure that the required permissions are installed for new and changed objects. See Assign Permission Sets to Managed Package Users and Permission Sets for TPM Users.
- Smart UI for TPM: If you're using TPM, you must use the standard Smart UI. If you have an older version of the custom Smart UI, you must manually upgrade it.
- Sequential and manual upgrade for Retail Execution: When you’re manually upgrading to the latest version, follow a sequential upgrade path. Apply static resource changes after each upgrade. If you’re upgrading across multiple releases (say, Winter ’25 to Summer ’25), complete the post-upgrade steps for each intermediate release (Winter ’25, Spring ’25, and Summer ’25)
- Prepare for features and products that are no longer available: Review the Salesforce Release Notes to find out about features and products that are no longer available. Make any changes you need based on those communications.
Push Upgrade Best Practices
- After a push upgrade, manually adopt any modified unmanaged permission sets, as noted in the Salesforce Release Notes.
- Retail Execution
- Customer Goods (CG) Cloud Visual Studio (VS) Code Based Modeler is backward-compatible and independent from the CG managed packages. To avoid errors, we recommend using the latest version.
- Design contract changes must be manually applied and aren’t automatically upgraded.
- To upgrade the CG Cloud mobile app, download the latest version from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
- Sign up for TestFlight to preview the latest mobile app on a physical device. During the preview, the latest managed package might require the same major version of the mobile or Modeler content. You can preview the Modeler NPM CLI, including the mobile framework, when the sandboxes are available. Use the simulator app in VS Code Based Modeler to test the simulated UI of the mobile app on the available platforms on a tablet or mobile device.
- Trade Promotion Management
- Consumer Goods Cloud Processing Services is backward-compatible and independent from the CG managed packages. However, we recommend that you use the latest version to avoid unforeseen errors. The latest version of the processing service is available for preview with a sandbox upgrade to the core release. See Consumer Goods Cloud Processing Service Preview.
Validating Push Upgrades
Check the package version and installation date on your org under Installed Packages in Setup. For pull upgrades, the name of the admin who installed the latest version is shown. For push upgrades, the Installed By field on the package shows the user as Salesforce.
