Code Sets and Code Set Bundles
Having accurate information and standardized definitions is vital for the healthcare industry. For example, a patient who is transferred from one provider to another faces serious consequences if both providers differ in their interpretation of the patient’s data. To avoid this scenario, the healthcare industry uses terminology systems that standardize the definitions of various situations and clinical data. These systems consist of subunits that the industry terms Coding, Codeable Concept, and Value Set.
In the Health Cloud implementation of the Clinical data model, coding is termed code set and codeable concept is termed code set bundle. Code Set and Code Set Bundle are generic objects designed to store a wider variety of standardized codes required by the industry. They are aligned with FHIR R4.
To work with code sets and code set bundles in Health Cloud, you need any of these permission sets at a minimum.
| Permission set | Access |
|---|---|
| Care Plans Access | Read, Create, Edit, Delete |
| Health Cloud Starter | Read, Create, Edit, Delete, View All Records, Modify All Records |
| Health Cloud Foundation | Read |
| Health Cloud Provider Relationship Management | Read, Create, Edit, Delete |
| Health Cloud Provider Network Management | Read |
| FHIR R4 for Experience Cloud Sites | Read, Create, Edit |
- Codings, Codeable Concepts, and Value Sets
To work effectively with these entities, it’s important to know what they are first. These entities are related to each other by way of hierarchies, concepts, or contexts. - Recommendations for Using Code Sets and Code Set Bundles
The type and range of codes required vary across organizations. The code requirements also depend on the type of care and services organizations provide and on the terminology systems they prefer. As such, Health Cloud doesn’t pre-populate these objects with any codes from terminology systems. - Predecessors to Code Sets and Code Set Bundles in Health Cloud
Before the Spring ’21 release, the Healthcare Procedure and Healthcare Diagnosis objects stored codes specifically related to procedures and diagnoses. These codes were used for prior-authorization requests and approval processes. Since the Spring’21 release, Health Cloud uses the Code Set and Code Set Bundle objects for this purpose instead.
