For example, a work procedure for pre-surgical appointments has work procedure steps for checkups and tests. A work procedure for a vaccination series has work procedure steps for each dose of the vaccine. Each work procedure step corresponds to a visit type.
Before you create work procedures and work procedure steps, make sure the objects include the fields required for Intelligent Appointment Management. See Set Up Page Layouts for Multi-Step Scheduling in Intelligent Appointment Management.
Create a Work Procedure
- From the App Launcher, find and select Work Procedures.
- Click New.
- Add a name and description. For example, for pre-surgical appointments, enter a name such as Pre-Op Visits.
-
For Lead Time Unit Type, select the default unit of measure used to calculate the lead
time for each work procedure step.
You can override this value by specifying the Lead Time Unit Type in a work procedure step.
-
To activate the work procedure, select Active.
The work procedure is available to schedulers after you activate it and when you select the Show-multi-step scheduling setting in the Healthcare Appointment Scheduler component. Instead of activating the work procedure immediately, you can wait until after you add steps to it. You can't use it until you have added steps.
- Save your changes.
Add Work Procedure Steps to a Work Procedure
- In a work procedure, from the Work Procedure Steps related list, click New. Or from the App Launcher, find and select Work Procedure Steps, and then click New.
- Select the work type associated with the work procedure step. You can also create a new work type here if you haven't already created a relevant one. For example, for a doctor’s visit before a surgery, select Pre-Op Checkup.
- Enter a sequence number for the work procedure step. For example, for the appointments before a surgery, enter 1 for the surgical consultation, enter 2 for the checkup, and enter 3 for the lab work.
- Select the work procedure associated with the work procedure step.
- For Lead Time, enter the time required before the work procedure step can begin.
-
For Lead Time Unit Type, select the unit of measure used to calculate the lead time.
If you leave this field blank, the Lead Time Unit Type specified in the work procedure is used.
- Save your changes.
-
To add another step, click New.
The number of steps associated with a work procedure affects performance. To get started, add a small number of steps. After you test your setup, add more steps. Intelligent Appointment Management can book up to 20 appointment slots in a series. If a work procedure has more than 20 steps, only the first 20 appointments in the series are booked.
