Guidelines for Managing Plan Benefit Attributes

Guidelines for Managing Plan Benefit Attributes

Understand the rules governing attribute enforcement, default value behaviors, and UI validation logic when creating or updating plan benefits.

Required Editions

Available in: Lightning Experience
Available in: Professional, Enterprise, and Unlimited Editions where Insurance Brokerage is enabled

Attribute Enforcement in the UI

  • Attributes configured as required must be completed before saving.
  • Optional attributes remain non-mandatory.
  • Default values are automatically populated during benefit creation.
  • Inline validation messages guide users to fix missing inputs.
  • On save, the system redirects to the first missing required field for faster correction.
  • If a checkbox attribute is configured as required, it is automatically set to true by default. The value is stored, and user input for that field isn't editable.

Default Value Behavior

Default values are applied only during creation of plan benefits.

During updates:

  • Existing values are retained if no new value is provided.
  • Default values are not reapplied automatically.
Example
Example

If an attribute "Is Inclusive of Deductible" is configured as:

  • Required
  • Boolean (checkbox)

Then:

  • It appears as a checkbox in the UI
  • The user must select a value before saving
  • If left unselected, an error message is displayed
