Create Billing Treatments and Billing Treatment Items
Billing Treatments define the billing behavior for insurance policies. They determine
when charges, such as premium and fee, are invoiced and how invoice amounts are calculated over
the duration of a policy.
Required Editions
Available in: Lightning Experience
Available in: Professional, Enterprise,
and Unlimited Editions where Insurance Brokerage is enabled
Billing Treatment Items are child records of a Billing Treatment. They control how the total
charge amount is distributed across billing schedules over the lifecycle of the policy and
drive how billing schedules are generated.
Billing Treatments in Agency Billing
In Agency Billing, multiple Billing Treatments are typically configured to support
different billing models, such as:
Advance Billing: Invoices charges before the billing period.
Arrears Billing: Invoices charges after the billing period.
Milestone (Hybrid) Billing: Invoice charges as per milestones created.
Advance and Arrears Billing Behavior
Advance Billing calculates invoice amounts up to one day before the next invoice date.
For example, if an invoice is generated on May 7 and the next invoice date is June 7, the
invoice generated on May 7 includes charges calculated through June 6.
Arrears Billing calculates invoice amounts through the invoice date itself. Using the
same example, the invoice generated on May 7 includes charges calculated through May
7.
Billing Treatment Items
For each Billing Treatment, you define corresponding Billing Treatment Items. These Billing
Treatment Items determine how charges are split and scheduled for invoicing. Billing
Treatments must be activated before they can be used in policy billing. For most insurance
use cases, Advance Billing is preferred. You can configure the Advance Billing Treatment as
the organization default. You can override the default Billing Treatment when configuring
billing for individual insurance policies, allowing flexibility to support different billing
models as needed. For more information, see Create Billing Treatments and Treatment Items.
