Create an Underwriting Rule with Constraint Rules Engine

Create an Underwriting Rule with Constraint Rules Engine

Define an underwriting rule in the root product’s constraint model by using the constraint modeling language (CML). Link the underwriting rule to the CML rule definition by using a rule key.

To access objects and interfaces required to configure underwriting rules Fulfilment Designer
  1. From the App Launcher, find and select Product Catalog Management.
  2. Select a root product.
  3. From the root product details page, click the Underwriting Rules tab.
  4. Click New Rule.
  5. Select the object type as Quote.
  6. If needed, select a record type.
  7. Select a stage transition that specifies the object's transition from one state to another if the rule evaluates to true.
    For example, a quote can move from the Approved stage to the Issued stage. The Stage Management configuration determines the possible transitions for the selected object type and record type.
  8. In Rule Engine Type, select ConstraintEngine.
  9. Enter a rule name, API name, and description.
  10. Select the rule status.
    An active rule takes effect during evaluation. The rule engine runs inactive rules, but ignores the results.
  11. Check the rule model and auto-generated RuleKey.

    Each product has one constraint model. To open the constraint model, click the hyperlink in the Rule Model section. The constraint model version controls the effective dates for the rule.

    The RuleKey has the format UW__[productCode]__[transition]__[apiName]. Make note of it to define the rule in the constraint model later.

  12. Click Add Action to define actions performed when the rule evaluates to true and when it evaluates to false.
    1. Select the rule evaluation type: True or False.
    2. Enter an action name.
    3. In Action Type, select Automated Flow.
    4. Enter the Flow Definition API name to trigger the predefined flow.
  13. Save your changes.

After saving the rule, define the rule logic in the constraint model by using the RuleKey. The rule uses this format:

rule(<boolean expression>, "InsuranceUnderwritingRule", <ruleKey>, "True")

For example:

// UnderwritingRules
rule(Auto_Value < 100000, "InsuranceUnderwritingRule", "UW__autoSilver__DraftToSubmitted__AutoValueRule", "True");
