Considerations and Limits for Insurance Surcharges

Review system limits, sequencing considerations, and behavioral constraints before you configure surcharges for your insurance products.

Surcharge Limits

Assign sequence numbers to all the product surcharge records. If you don't set a sequence number, the system processes the surcharges in an undefined order.
Make sure that a sequence number is unique for a surcharge-product pair.

Surcharge records

You can update only the Effective To Date of a surcharge after you link the surcharge to a product.
You can't delete a surcharge when product surcharge records reference it.

Product Surcharge records

You can update only the Effective To Date after you create a product surcharge.
You can't delete a product surcharge when a quote item tax item, insurance policy surcharge, or quote line price adjustment record references it.

Surcharge calculation runs after the rating procedure determines the base premium.
To skip tax calculation for specific quotes, include the additional field SkipCalculateTax with the value true in your quote or product rating API request. To skip fee calculation, include the additional field SkipCalculateFee with the value true.
