External Storage of Files with Amazon S3 for Public Sector
Connect your Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3) to your Salesforce org to work with
large, high-volume files directly from within Salesforce. Public sector organizations can
access, search, stream, attach, and upload files without leaving the Salesforce
platform.
Note Public Sector Solutions is now Agentforce Public Sector. You may see references to
Public Sector Solutions in Salesforce applications and documentation.
Public sector organizations often need to manage and store large files—over petabytes—to meet
compliance requirements. For example, caseworkers and other stakeholders working on
investigative cases must store digital evidence that includes a high volume of video or media
files and documents. This evidence can come from various sources, such as body camera footage,
investigative recordings, and IoT devices.
By integrating Amazon S3 with Salesforce, you can enable caseworkers, investigators, and
other business users to:
Link files in Amazon S3 to a Salesforce record. For example, investigators and forensic
analysts can efficiently locate relevant digital evidence within large volumes of data
stored in Amazon S3, and then link it to a case record.
Upload files to S3 from within Salesforce. For example, investigators can directly upload
large video evidence file to a case record in Salesforce that’s configured to store the
files in Amazon S3.
Users can preview and stream the linked and uploaded files in the browser without needing to
download them first.
To learn about accessing external data from external systems other than Amazon S3, such as
Quip, Google Drive, SharePoint, or Box, see Salesforce Files Connect.
Amazon S3 Integration Setup Workflow Explore the steps to integrate Amazon S3 with Salesforce to access and upload files. The setup is divided into two key steps: File Access and File Upload. You can assign permissions to control which users can only access files and which users have permission to both access and upload them.
Set Up Amazon S3 Before you set up Salesforce connection to Amazon S3, make sure that you complete the required setup on Amazon S3.
Set Up File Access in Amazon S3 Set up Amazon S3 and use Files Connect to set up Amazon S3 as an external storage system in Salesforce.
Set Up File Upload to Amazon S3 Let your users upload files to an Amazon S3 bucket from within Salesforce. For a standard configuration, specify the external data source. By default, files are uploaded to predefined file paths in the external data source.
