Send to Subscribers in a Data Extension
Send an email to subscribers in a data extension in Email Studio for Marketing Cloud Engagement. For your convenience, you can preview email sends to a data extension, for example, to see personalization and dynamic content.
If you use a subscriber key to identify subscribers, the system removes duplicate entries from your data extension list based on the key value, and not the email address. To help ensure successful email delivery, List Detective scans for problematic email addresses in the data extension list. Emails aren’t sent to the addresses identified by this scan and the sends aren’t tracked, but List Detective doesn't remove the email addresses from the data extension.
- Click Content.
- Click the arrow next to an email, and then click Send.
-
Configure the subject and From Name for your email.
- Add a subject line. Insert variable tags and dynamic content as needed.
- Add preheader text, which appears after the subject line of the email. Insert dynamic content for the preheader as needed.
- To use a From Name, click FROM NAME and select the From Name and address.
- To use a send classification, click SAVED SEND CLASSIFICATION and select the send classification from the dropdown menu. You can also override the sender and delivery profiles for the send classification that you choose.
- Click Next.
-
Drag and drop recipients for the email to the relevant sections on the right.
Recipients can be a list, a group, a data extension with an associated publication list,
an audience with an associated publication list, or a data filter with an associated
publication list. Depending on the features enabled, you might see different
options.
- Choose your target recipients. To make sure you can view email tracking, send each email to a maximum of 50 lists. When sending to data extensions or an audience, select De-duplicate subscribers to prevent subscribers from receiving duplicate emails.
- Based on your business needs, exclude some recipients from receiving the email. Use this option only when you select some subscribers as recipients but you don’t want to send to them. Recipients in an exclude or suppression list won’t receive the email, even if they are listed in the target audience.
- If needed, enter CC and BCC email addresses.
- If needed, use advanced exclusion options such as domain exclusion and exclusion through AMPscript.
- Click Next.
-
Set a time for your email sends by scheduling them or using send throttling. Make sure
you use only one of these options. Send throttling overrides scheduling, but selecting
both can corrupt the throttling process.
- To schedule your email sends, under Send Timing, choose whether to send immediately or schedule for later. If you choose to send later, you can set the date and time of the sends.
- To limit the number of email sends within a specified time, under Send Throttling,
select the time range during which you want to send your email. Enter a start and end
time. You can also specify the number of sends per hour during that time.
The email sends start at the specified time. The system continues sending during the selected time range until the sends are complete, or at the specified end time, whichever comes first. If the end time is reached before the sends are complete, the system continues sending the next day at the same start time. This process continues until the sends are complete.
-
Select tracking and advanced options.
- To track recipients that have clicked your email, under Tracking, select Track Clicks.
- To capture email variable values for each send, select Retain Send Log Data.
- To send your email without the send job appearing in reports, select Suppress From Send Report. Select a TRACKING DESTINATION FOLDER as the location to place your job at the send time.
- To send both the HTML and text versions of your email, under Advanced Options, select Send as Multipart MIME. This includes the text version you’ve created and the version accepted by the subscriber's email client. If multipart MIME isn’t enabled in your account, contact your Salesforce account executive.
- Click Next and review your email summary before sending it.
- After verifying that all the information is correct, select This information is correct and this email is ready to send and click Send.
