          Inactivate a Message

          Inactivate a Message

You can inactivate a message after evaluating its send status in MobileConnect.

When you create and schedule a message, the message status is set to Active/Scheduled. An active scheduled message performs send as scheduled and responds to inbound messages.

Messages created with the Outbound or Outbound Media templates also have a real-time send status. The send status is set to Running if a Send is in progress and Not Running if there’s no send currently in progress. Inactivating an Outbound or Outbound Media message that’s Running will cancel both the current send and future sends. Inactivating one that is Not Running will cancel the future sends.

For messages created with all other templates, there’s no send status. Inactivating one of these messages only cancels future sends.

          Note
Note You can’t reactivate an inactive message. However, you can create an active copy of an inactive message.
          1. In Overview, click the message to change.
          2. For Outbound or Outbound Media messages, review the Send Status near Make Inactive to cancel the current and future sends or only future sends.
          3. Click Make Inactive.
            Note
Note If one or more automations or active journeys currently use the message, you can’t make the message Inactive. Remove the message from the necessary automations in Automation Studio or stop the active journeys, and then make the message inactive.
            Note
Note After 180 days, MobileConnect archives inactive messages and removes them from view. You can still review information on archived messages in the calendar on the day the message was sent.
