Create and Send an Inbox 1.0 Message

Create and Send an Inbox 1.0 Message

Use Inbox 1.0 messages in MobilePush to send a persistent message along with a CloudPage. This method creates a standard inbox message that includes a title and a CloudPage link.

When working with Inbox 1.0 messages, keep these considerations in mind:

          • Inbox 1.0 is compatible with all SDK versions.
          • App inbox sending must be enabled via the MobilePush SDK. By default, an End Date is automatically set for 1 year in the future after the first inbox Message is delivered via the specified journey.
          • If you copy an existing Inbox message, be sure to update the End Date to reflect your desired message parameters.

Before you begin, create a CloudPage for your message.

          1. In MobilePush, click Create Message.
          2. Select the Inbox template, and then select Inbox 1.0.
          3. Enter a name for the message.
          4. Select the app to associate with the message.
          5. Select the send method.
            • Schedule—Send immediately or at a specified time.
            • API Triggered—Send based on an external API call.
            • Inbox - Automation—Send as part of an automation in Automation Studio.
            • Interaction—Send as part of a journey.
          6. Select the push method.
            • Alert + Inbox—Send a push alert to the device and a message to the app inbox that directs the consumer to a mobile-optimized page. Each push alert consumes two MobilePush messages.
            • Inbox Only—Send a message that directs the consumer to a mobile-optimized page to the app inbox.
          7. Select or create the audience. To send only to contacts who meet certain criteria, create a filtered list or create a data extension in Contact Builder.
            • Contact List—Drag the selected contact lists to the Targeted and Excluded boxes on the right, and click Save.
            • Data Extension—Drag the selected data extensions to the Targeted and Excluded boxes on the right, and click Save.

When a subscriber is listed in multiple targeted data extensions, personalization can be pulled from either data extension. The order in which the personalization is chosen can’t be guaranteed, and it can differ every time you send a message.

          8. If you select Alert + Inbox as the method, create a push notification.
            1. Enter the push alert title, subtitle, and message content. To personalize the content of the message, select contact attributes from the personalization dropdown menu.
          9. Configure customizations for your message:
            1. Add media to your message.
            2. If you enabled Interactive Notifications, select which notifications to use.
            3. If you enabled Custom Keys for your app, enter the key values. To insert unique keys based on Contact attributes or campaigns, you can include an AMPscript value in the Custom Key text fields.
          10. Enter the inbox subject line and select the CloudPages to use.
          11. For a repeatable message type, such as Automation or Journey Builder, override an existing inbox message with each send by selecting Yes on Replace Inbox message. To add a message to the inbox with each send, select No.
          12. Specify how long the message remains in the app inbox.
          13. Schedule or send the message.
