How Consent Matching Works
- Account Engagement uses the B2B Email Consent subscription to match the email consent with Marketing Cloud Next records that share the same email address.
- Email consent status updates originating from the B2B Email Consent subscription in Marketing Cloud Next update the prospect Opted Out field value in Account Engagement for prospects with a matching email address, including prospects in the Recycle Bin.
- The default prospect Opted Out status for a new prospect created in Account Engagement from the Salesforce connector is based on the configured Sync Behavior of the default prospect Opted Out field, and the most recent email consent status across Marketing Cloud Next and Account Engagement.
- The prospect Opted Out status for a new prospect created in Account Engagement (via a form submission, API, import, or manually) overrides the prior email consent status for the same email address specified in Account Engagement or Marketing Cloud Next.
Considerations for Consent Matching
When preparing to enable consent matching between Account Engagement and Marketing Cloud Next, keep these considerations in mind.
- The consent matching tool is recommended only for customers who rely on the default prospect Opted Out field value for managing email consent in Account Engagement.
- Consent matching is limited to one Account Engagement business unit, even if you have multiple business units available.
- The Sync Behavior for the default prospect Opted Out field in Account Engagement has to be set to "Use the most recently updated field value", "Use Account Engagement's value", or be unmapped to Salesforce.
- Transfer of email consent status updates across systems isn't immediate, and some delay is expected.
- The default Do Not Email field in Account Engagement doesn't track consent. Use this field to prevent sending emails to unengaged prospects.
