Considerations for Using the Google Analytics Connector

Before using the Google Analytics connector with Salesforce, keep these considerations in mind.

          Required Editions

Available in: All Account Engagement Editions
          Note
Note Pardot is now known as Marketing Cloud Account Engagement. We wish we could snap our fingers to update the name everywhere, but you can expect to see the previous name in a few places until we replace it, including in the app itself.

This connector doesn’t sync directly with Google Analytics. It captures Google Analytics keyword tags on your marketing assets.

This connector is compatible with Google Analytics 4.

To capture keyword tags, add Google Analytics tracking code to your marketing assets, such as forms and landing pages.

Google Analytics data appears on new prospect records that originate from Google Analytics-tagged links. When an existing prospect clicks a tagged link, no changes are made to their record.

The "utm_source" value captured by Google Analytics parameters populates the Source field in the Google Analytics section of a prospect record. It can also be set for the default Source field.

The "utm_campaign" value captured by the Google Analytics parameters populates the Campaign field in the Google Analytics section of a prospect record. To create Account Engagement campaigns instead, enable Automatically create Pardot campaigns and associate prospects to Pardot campaigns from Google Analytics campaigns.

UTM is updated only for the first touchpoint.

UTM parameters longer than 50 characters are truncated.

Fields in the Google Analytics connector use Account Engagement values and can't be changed.
