How Does Account Engagement Handle Deleted Leads and Contacts?

When a synced lead or contact is deleted in Salesforce, it’s flagged as [[crm_deleted]] and sent to the Account Engagement recycle bin. Account Engagement doesn’t recreate the lead or contact in Salesforce, but some actions can remove the flag.

Pardot is now known as Marketing Cloud Account Engagement. We wish we could snap our fingers to update the name everywhere, but you can expect to see the previous name in a few places until we replace it, including in the app itself.

These actions remove the [[crm_deleted]] flag and make the prospect eligible for syncing:

          • Creating a record with the same email address in Salesforce if Automatically create prospects in Pardot if they are created as a Lead or Contact in Salesforce is selected (only in accounts that don’t allow multiple prospects with the same email address).
          • Using one of these Salesforce functions: Send to Pardot, Send Pardot Email, Add to Pardot List, or Send Engage Email. In business units that allow multiple prospects with the same email address, the Send to Pardot button doesn’t clear the [[crm_deleted]] flag. Instead, it creates a prospect record.
          • Creating an automation rule with an action to Allow Deleted CRM Lead or Allow Deleted Lead or Contact to be Recreated in Salesforce.
