Prospects with a mailability status of Operational Emails Only aren’t eligible to receive
marketing emails from Account Engagement. However, if an admin enables operational email sending,
these prospects can still receive emails that are considered critical, such as order confirmations
or legal notifications. Operational emails can be sent as list emails and through Engagement
Studio. They can’t be sent using automation rules.

What Counts as Marketing Email?
Here are some examples of operational emails versus marketing (or promotional) emails.
Operational
Marketing
Critical system changes that require users to do something
Product update and improvement announcements
Shipping information and invoices
Webinar invites and reminders
Terms of service changes
Permission passes
Order confirmations
Holiday card emails
System status notices
Blog content updates
Legally required notifications
Surveys
Internal company emails
Event reminders
Enable Operational Email Sending When you send critical notifications and other operational messages, you want to reach all your customers—not just people who have opted in to receive marketing email from you. Turn on operational email sending to bypass opt-in status for certain types of messages.
Operational Emails in Engagement Studio Limitations Operational emails can be sent directly from Engagement Studio. Sending operational emails bypasses prospect opted-in status, so only non-marketing emails can be sent. You can filter your Engagement Studio screen to find programs with Operational Emails.
