Known Gaps Between Flow Approval Processes and Approval Processes

Feature Approval Processes Flow Approval Processes
Submit for Approval Button Select Add the Submit for Approval button and Approval History related list to all record page layouts when you create an approval process by using the Jump Start Wizard or the Standard Setup Wizard.
          • No button is necessary to submit a record for approval when using a record-triggered flow approval process.
          • Create a custom button that references a flow approval process and add it to the record page layout associated with the object to be reviewed.
          • Create a custom button that references an autolaunched flow that calls an autolaunched flow approval process f using the dynamic Request an Approval action.
Entry Conditions Specify entry conditions to start an approval only when those conditions are met. When someone submits an approval where the specified entry conditions aren’t met, they see an error message: No applicable approval process was found.
          • Specify entry conditions as a part of the Start element of a record-triggered flow approval process that automatically launches each time an affected record is created or updated.
          • To specify entry criteria in an autolaunched flow approval process, use one or more background steps in the first stage and follow the stage with a Decision element.
Select the Next Approver Manually If Let the submitter choose the approver manually is enabled, then the submitter can select the approver manually from a list of all users, including users who are disabled.

          Not supported.

All approvers are defined within the flow approval process. When you add an approval step, select the desired user, group, or queue. We recommend using a variable that determines the user, group, or queue at run time.

Recall an Approval If Allow submitters to recall approval requests is enabled.
          • Anyone with the Approval Admin system permission can recall any in-progress approval.
          • A submitter can recall any in-progress approval that they submitted.
Approver Delegates If The approver’s delegate may also approve this request is enabled, then an assigned approver or their delegate can complete a request. If an approver has a defined delegate, then the assigned approver or their delegate can complete a request.
Recall Actions From Setup, in Approval Processes, select an approval process. Then add actions in the Recall Actions section. In Flow Builder, add a recall path to the Start element in a flow approval process. A recall path can contain only 1 stage, and the stage can contain only background steps. If the submission is recalled, the stage that was running and its related steps are canceled, and open approval work items are also canceled. The stage in the recall path then runs. When it’s completed, the approval submission is then recalled.
Approval Email Template You must define an email template to use with your approval.
          • Use the default email notification for assigned approvers, approver delegates, and for submitters.
          • Use text templates in your flow approval process to create custom email notifications to your assigned approvers and their delegates. Reuse a text template in multiple steps, or use different text templates for each approval step.
          • When an approval work item is reassigned, the newly assigned approvers and approver delegates always receive the default email notification.
Emails to Group and Queue Members Members of an assigned queue are each recipients of the approver email notification.
          • When the Enable email approval response Process Automation Setting is selected, members of an assigned group or queue and their delegates are each recipients of an approval email notification.
          • When the Enable email approval response Process Automation Setting is deselected, approvers and their delegates are emailed differently.
            • Members of an assigned group or queue each receive a blind carbon copy (bcc) of an approval email notification.
            • Delegates of members of an assigned group or queue are each recipients of an approval email notification.
