Move from Lightning Sync to Einstein Activity Capture

We recommend all Lightning Sync orgs migrate to Einstein Activity Capture as soon as they can. It’s our long-term solution for syncing events and contacts between Salesforce and a connected Microsoft or Google account. Einstein Activity Capture also syncs email data, making it available to the Salesforce platform tools, including reports, automation workflows, and AI-powered agentic features.

If you use Microsoft Exchange Web Services (EWS) you can’t migrated to Einstein Activity Capture until you upgrade your Lightning Sync authentication method from EWS to Microsoft Graph. Microsoft has announced that EWS retires in October 2026. Lightning Sync configurations that use EWS won’t capture or sync data after this retirement. After you upgrade, then migrate to Einstein Activity Capture. We provide in-app tools for the upgrade and migration, but you initiate the processes separately.

Note All Lightning Sync configurations except those without enough licenses for Einstein Activity Capture or another exemption must migrate before Lightning Sync retires. Orgs with exemptions won’t see the Lightning Sync migration tool in Setup.

  To complete your migration to Einstein Activity Capture, your users must be assigned an Einstein Activity Capture user permission. Until you do, your users’ contacts and events continue syncing with Lightning Sync, and users don’t get access to Einstein Activity Capture features.   Now that you’re set up for Einstein Activity Capture, you and your users can get acquainted with the product. See how it works and how you can troubleshoot issues. If you added Einstein Activity Capture features or settings to your users’ migrated sync configurations, introduce those changes to users and some other settings that are new to them. You can also remind users how to manage which contacts and events sync.
