Move from Lightning Sync to Einstein Activity Capture

Move from Lightning Sync to Einstein Activity Capture

Use the Lightning Sync migration tool to complete the process. Migrate before Lightning Sync retires in April 2027. If you use Lightning Sync with Microsoft Office 365 and Exchange Web Service (EWS), migrate Lightning Sync to Einstein Activity capture before August 2026 to avoid service disruption.

          Required Editions

The Lightning Sync migration tool is available in: Lightning Experience
Einstein Activity Capture is available in: Lightning Experience and the Salesforce mobile app
The Lightning Sync migration tool and Einstein Activity Capture are available in: Professional, Enterprise, Performance, and Unlimited Editions with Sales Cloud

Microsoft announced the retirement of Exchange Web Services (EWS) for Microsoft Office 365 in October 2026. Lightning Sync configurations that use EWS won’t capture or sync data after this retirement.

To continue to sync data between your Microsoft account and Salesforce, migrate Lightning Sync to Einstein Activity Capture. After you finished the migration process, including granting users Einstein Activity Capture permissions and turning off Lightning Sync, upgrade from EWS to Microsoft Graph. We provide in-app tools for the migration and the upgrade, but you initiate the processes separately. You can’t sync data until both steps are complete. We recommend you plan for and complete this multi-step process before Microsoft disables EWS and you lose service.

We recommend all other Lightning Sync orgs also migrate to Einstein Activity Capture. It’s our long-term solution for syncing events and contacts between Salesforce and a connected Microsoft or Google account. Einstein Activity Capture also syncs email data, making it available to the Salesforce platform tools, including reports, automation workflows, and AI-powered agentic features.

          Note
Note If you use Lightning Sync in Government Cloud, you don’t have to migrate. Government Cloud is exempt from the Lightning Sync retirement.
