          Import Configuration Items to CMDB

          Import Configuration Items to CMDB

Import configuration items (CIs) and CI tags in bulk using a predefined CSV template. Download a prestructured template that matches the selected CI type and then upload the completed CSV to import CIs into CMDB. Use this method to maintain consistency and reduce manual effort during CMDB setup.

          Required Editions

          Available in: Lightning Experience
Available in: Enterprise, Performance, and Unlimited Editions with Agentforce IT Service that have CMDB and Service Graph enabled.
          User Permissions Needed
To import configuration items: IT Service Configuration Item Manager
To view configuration item types: IT Service Configuration Item Reader

During CI import, CMDB imports tags associated with CIs from the import file. For more information, see Configuration Item Tags.

          1. From the App Launcher, find and select CMDB and Service Graph.
          2. In the navigation panel, select Administration, and then select CMDB.
          3. Click CI Imports and Exports.
          4. In the Import History tab, click Download Import Template, and then click Next.
          5. For Template Object, select Configuration Item Type.
          6. For Configuration Item Type Templates, search and select the required template based on the CI type.
          7. Click Download to save the CSV template.
The file includes all standard and required attributes associated with the selected configuration item type.
          8. Open the downloaded CSV file in a spreadsheet editor and enter values for each column as per your CI records.
            Note
Note For date or date/time fields, enter values in one of these supported formats:
            • Epoch milliseconds. For example, 17272806450002
            • Date with time in 12-hour format. For example, 9/25/2026 3:30:45 PM
            • Date only. For example, 9/25/2026
          9. Click Import CI in the Import History tab.
          10. In the Upload CSV file page, select Upload Files to upload the file, and then click Next.
          11. In the Select Configuration Item Type page, select the required CI type from the Target Object field.
The uploaded CSV file is associated with the selected CI type.
          12. In the Map Columns page, review and adjust the column mappings.
The import tool automatically maps CSV columns to configuration item fields when possible. Unmapped columns are not imported.
          13. If you want to reuse an existing column mapping, select Use a saved mapping configuration and upload the saved mapping file.
          14. On the Start Import page, review the import settings, and then click Start Import.
            Note
Note CMDB applies identification rules during import. Based on these rules, the import updates existing configuration items or creates new ones. For more information, see Identification Rules in CMDB.

Your import job appears in the Import History tab. You can use the Import Status column to check the status of your import. When the import is completed, the imported records appear in All Configuration Items. If you're listed as the CI owner, the records also show up in My Configuration Items.

When the import is completed, you can also import CI relationships to define dependencies between imported CIs. For more information, see Import Configuration Item Relationships.
