Native GIS for the Field Service Mobile App

Native GIS for the Field Service Mobile App

Equip mobile workers with an integrated geospatial information system (GIS) to help them assess environmental risks such as real-time weather conditions or power outage areas. Native GIS combines this external data with work execution details such as work order line items to provide a unified, interactive map view. To ensure reliability in remote areas, Native GIS intelligently manages offline map syncs, prompting mobile workers to download necessary coverage, or automatically updating data every 24 hours.

          Required Editions

          Available in: Lightning Experience.
Available in: Enterprise Edition with the Asset Service Lifecycle Management add-on license, or in Performance, Unlimited, and Developer Editions.
          Note
Note The setup applies only to the ArcGIS online solution.
          • Set Up ArcGIS for Native GIS
To use maps in the Field Service mobile app, first assign licenses. Then, create feature layers in the ArcGIS online portal. Finally, assign them to maps, and define the authentication to use to access the map.
          • Set Up Authentication in Salesforce for Native GIS
Create authentication methods to authenticate mobile workers, and to authenticate the connector when syncing records with ArcGIS. You can either have a single authentication method for both your mobile workers and the connector, or you can define different authentication methods for each.
          • Set Up a Native GIS Connector
To view Salesforce objects on the map, define a connector to automatically sync the Salesforce data with the relevant ArcGIS hosted feature layer. Map Salesforce objects and fields with ArcGIS layers, and define how often the connector should run. To update data at different intervals, you can create multiple connectors for each type of sync interval.
          • Set Up Map Assignments
Configure which GIS maps mobile workers see in the Field Service mobile app. You can either assign a single map to all users, or assign different maps to different users.
          • Create Map Actions for Mobile Workers
Save mobile workers time and improve location accuracy by letting them complete field tasks directly from the map. Set up map actions to assign geospatial drawing tools to work order actions and object actions, so that mobile workers can create records and update locations by tapping or drawing on the map instead of entering coordinates by hand.
          • Assign Permissions to Mobile Workers for Accessing GIS Maps
Make sure that the following permissions are assigned to the mobile workers who must access GIS maps.
          • Offline Maps
Every 24 hours, the Field Service mobile app evaluates whether your offline map covers the locations for a mobile worker's upcoming service appointments. If the app detects that the map area is insufficient for the next 24 hours of work, it prompts them to replace the current map with a new one that includes the relevant area.
