          Chatter Features in Aura Sites

          Chatter Features in Aura Sites

Chatter is a social network for holding and preserving discussions in a business, customer site, or other enterprise. Site members can use Chatter to engage with your organization, seek expert advice, and revisit relevant discussions. Chatter gives you a direct view into your site, fostering insight and inspiration. In sites, Chatter is often referred to as feeds or discussions. While Chatter is available in sites built using Aura and Salesforce Tabs + Visualforce templates, lots of extra features that support customer and partner site are available only in Aura sites.

          Required Editions

Available in: Salesforce Classic and Lightning Experience
Available in: Enterprise, Performance, Unlimited, and Developer Editions
          Applies to: Aura sites
          Note
Note Beginning in Summer ’26, Chatter is turned off by default in all new orgs. For any features in these orgs that require access to Chatter functionality or the Chatter APIs, turn on Chatter by going to Setup | Chatter Settings and selecting Enable. For details, see Chatter Is Turned Off by Default in New Orgs Beginning in Summer ’26.

For example, threaded discussions add dimension to your feeds by including the power to reply to answers and comments. Company verification puts your organization’s stamp of approval on an answer to a customer question. Streams join multiple feeds together into one mega-feed. Direct messages create break-out sessions with a customer or partner needing individual attention.

          • Close a Conversation, Poll, or Question in an Aura Site
The question is answered, the topic discussed, the poll decided. What do you do now? You end the conversation. Admins, moderators, and permitted members can close a question, poll, or post in an Aura site. And, if needed, they can reopen it. It’s a nice way to stop the churning on a settled matter.
          • Pin Posts in an Aura Site
Pin a post to give more exposure to your most critical information. In your site’s group and topics feeds, an authorized user can pin up to three posts to the top of the feed. A pinned post stays in place until an authorized user unpins it. Pinning a post is only available in Aura sites.
          • Add Groups to an Aura Site
Want more collaborative sites or communities? Give site members and guest users the ability to browse and join groups in your Aura site. Use the standard design for groups or create your own customized version of the group detail page using separate components.
          • Move Feed Items from One Public Group Feed to Another
In Aura, the Move option on feed item dropdown menus offers a way to relocate feed items from one public group feed to another. Use Move to improve an item’s visibility or to place it in a more relevant context. For example, if a user posts a Sales poll in a Marketing feed by mistake, the poll can easily be moved to the right location. System Administrators, Community Managers, and Chatter Moderators can move posts, polls, and questions.
          • Threaded Discussions in an Aura Site
When you talk to people, it’s rarely like a feed, where one person asks a question and everyone else answers. In real life, when one person asks a question, someone answers, and then there's a reply to that answer, and a reply to that reply. With threaded discussions, you can participate in this lively flow in your sites.
          • Chatter Streams in Aura Sites
Your Aura site members can combine multiple feeds into a stream to create a single point of access to related information. Combine feeds of top contributors or discussions concerning a particular product line. Create a stream that combines feeds from discussions, groups, topics, profiles, and all kinds of objects, like cases, opportunities, and accounts. No more jumping from feed-to-feed to figure out what people are saying. Each member can create up to 100 streams.
          • Enable Direct Messages in an Aura Site
Allow members to send direct messages to start a private conversation with up to 16 people, including the sender. Direct messages are supported in all Aura sites and in Lightning Bolt Solutions, such as the Lightning Partner Management solution.
          • Verify Answers for Your Company
Sometimes there’s more than one correct answer to a question. Among the correct answers, your company can prefer one course for people to follow. You can highlight an answer that your company endorses by marking it as Company Verified. Questions marked as Company Verified or as Best Answer are copied to the top of the thread under a Top Rated Answers section.
