Before completing this task, understand how related objects are affected when the primary object gets archived.
- Objects with a detail relationship to the primary object are cascade-deleted from your org. You can maintain a copy of these objects in the archived data by adding them to the policy.
- Objects with a lookup relationship to the primary object remain in your org, but their connection to the primary object is lost. You can maintain a copy of these objects and preserve their relationships in the archived data by adding them to the policy.
On the Configure Related Objects screen, the available objects are categorized by Cascade-Delete Relationships and Lookup Relationships.
To configure a related object:
- Click the plus (+) icon in the Add to Policy column.
- Using the dropdown menus, specify how the object's files and attachments are processed. For information about file and attachment options, see Configure Files and Attachments for Archived Records in Legacy Salesforce Archive.
When you're finished adding related objects to the policy, click Done.
Archive Additional Related Objects as Needed
Related objects can have detail or lookup objects of their own. For each related object that you add to your policy, you can see how many detail or lookup objects correspond to it from the policy details page, under Related Objects. Add these objects to your policy as needed, using the Configure buttons.
Keep in mind that related object hierarchies can have three or even four tiers. While detail objects are cascade-deleted all the way down the hierarchy tree, lookup objects are preserved unless you add them to your policy. To avoid preserving unwanted data in your org, examine all lookup objects and decide whether you want them archived.
You're ready to set the run schedule for your archive policy.
