Send Custom Notifications with Notification Builder Platform

Send Custom Notifications with Notification Builder Platform

Subscribe your connected apps to custom notification types to receive and display in-app and push notifications. Subscribing allows you to send custom notifications to users in your own org. Or you can package your app for distribution and the custom notifications it subscribes to along with it, including the notification types and triggers.

See New connected apps can no longer be created in Spring ‘26 for more details.

Before you begin, make sure that the custom notification type you want to subscribe to exists and that the appropriate supported channels are enabled for the type. If not, create or edit the notification type. You can manage your custom notification types via the Custom Notifications page in Setup or via API.

          1. Enter Apps in the Quick Find box in Setup, then select App Manager.
          2. Locate the desired app, then select Edit from the dropdown menu.
          3. Select Enable subscription to notification types.
          4. Select the desired subscription options for each custom notification type.
            • Subscribe — Enables the connected app for the notification type. Notifications are returned via API and can be used to populate a connected app's notification tray, if available.
            • Send as Push — Enables mobile push notifications for the notification type. To enable push notifications, you must also select Subscribe.
          5. Save your changes.

You can subscribe a connected app to a custom notification type before you associate triggers with the type. However, you must associate triggers with a type to send a custom notification. To associate triggers with a custom notification type, add it to a process or flow, or use the customNotificationAction.

Use the Connect REST API Notifications Resources to get, update, and get the status of custom notifications in your org.

Use the Connect REST API Notification Settings Resources to get, set, and reset your org’s notification settings.
