Data Detect

Data Detect is a crucial tool designed to help organizations identify sensitive data within their Salesforce orgs, enabling them to protect it effectively. By using native Salesforce technology, Data Detect ensures that your data remains secure within the platform, eliminating the need for third-party services or data transfers outside Salesforce. This capability significantly streamlines data classification, also by linking data sensitivity levels and categories to actual field data, ultimately empowering users to take necessary protective actions.

Requires the Salesforce Shield add-on subscription or the Data Detect add-on license.
Data detect versions

The Salesforce app version of Data Detect is now available as part of the new Shield app. There are different versions of Data Detect:

  • The Salesforce app version of Data Detect is a data detection system designed to identify sensitive information within Salesforce orgs. It provides a platform-native technology ‌approach to detecting, classifying, and managing sensitive data at scale.
  • Data Detect legacy-managed package helps you identify sensitive data within your org so you can take steps to protect it. Use Data Detect legacy-managed package to expedite data categorization by aligning data sensitivity levels and categories to actual field data. The Data Detect legacy-managed package is unavailable for Summer '26. If you enabled Data Detect legacy-managed package before Summer '26, it remains available in your Salesforce org. We recommend that you use the new Salesforce Data Detect app instead. The new Data Detect app is now part of the Shield app. See Data Detect End of Support.
  • Data Detect
    Data Detect helps you identify sensitive data within your org so you can take steps to protect it. It uses native platform-native technology so that you don’t rely on third-party services or port your data outside of Salesforce. Use Data Detect to expedite data categorization by aligning data sensitivity levels and categories to actual field data.
  • Data Detect Legacy-Managed Package
    Data Detect legacy-managed package helps you identify sensitive data within your org so you can take steps to protect it. It uses native platform-native technology so that you don’t rely on third-party services or port your data outside of Salesforce. Use Data Detect legacy-managed package to expedite data categorization by aligning data sensitivity levels and categories to actual field data.
